A new formula for early settlement through the Consumer Credit (Early Settlement) regulations 2004 was introduced on 31st May 2005. The new proposals enable lenders to calculate early settlement payments by postponing the settlement date by up to 28 days (after notice is received by the lender), and also allow the lenders to recover an additional months interest above the settlement figure for loans of more than one year old.

In other words there is now a maximum ceiling for lenders of 28 days plus one month.
